Coldwater Road

bio//

Lyrically rich with steady drive, Coldwater Road gives storytelling a reason to move. Swinging between love songs and foot-stomping murder ballads, CwRoad covers a lot of ground; their songs often rooted in Canadian History and the Western Frontier. Their style reaches across Folk, Americana, Rock, and Country with the timelessness of James Taylor and the energy of The Lumineers.  The band performs with 2-5 players depending on the occasion. Gritty and acoustic or rich in texture, Coldwater Road has something for the delicate and desperate alike.

Patrick Spencer first assembled the group in late 2011 to record three songs for a MusicBC Demo grant at Hipposonic Studios (Chris Michel). Enjoying the sessions, the band started playing live in the new year and won the Ceili's Battle if the Bands in 2012. One year later from a cabin in the snow near Merritt BC, the band recorded their debut album Street Side, tracked live off the floor. CwRoad were participants in the 2013 Peak Performance Project,  the 2015 SFU LAUNCH Festival, and recipients of a 2016 FACTOR Demo Grant. The band has performed across the Canadian Railway as part of the VIA Rail Artist on Board program, have completed numerous tours throughout Western Canada, and have showcased in Los Angeles and New York City. The band released their first studio album The Woods in 2014, and their latest 5-song EP Horses and Guns and Trucks in June 2016 at the Fox Cabaret. The band is preparing to release their next studio album in 2019, a mix of new ballads and some favorite covers.
